Project Introduction – Grove Café @ Domain Mall

Project Background

Grove Café has been a longstanding presence in Domain Mall for over a decade, operating in a freestanding, fully detached structure situated on an expansive open deck. Despite its prime location and a unique outdoor setting overlooking the iconic Victoria Harbour, the café’s original interior and exterior had fallen into significant disrepair over the years. Before renovation, it resembled a typical local teahouse with no distinctive style, marked by outdated finishes and a worn-out, cluttered atmosphere. The premises had also been associated with smoking in the open areas, contributing to a chaotic and unappealing environment.

Recognizing the café’s excellent site potential—particularly its panoramic views and sunset-facing orientation—we were commissioned in 2023 to completely transform Grove Café, revitalizing both its physical space and its brand identity.

Design Concept

Several strategic principles guided our design approach:

  • Maximize Natural Light and Views
Given the café’s prime location facing the western sky, we designed large folding and sliding glass doors to open the interior fully to the exterior deck. This transparent interface allows abundant natural light to flood the interior while offering diners unobstructed vistas of Victoria Harbour, exceptionally breathtaking during sunset hours.

  • Modern Minimalism Aesthetic
The interior was redesigned in a modern, minimalist style, featuring light-toned materials, soft wood textures, and clean lines. The use of pale timber for furniture and wall features, combined with understated grey cabinetry and neutral tiles, creates an airy, contemporary atmosphere.

  • Refined Functionality
The barista counter and kitchen areas were completely reconfigured for operational efficiency, integrating high-performance equipment within sleek, custom-built cabinetry. Lighting schemes were carefully planned to provide both functional illumination and a warm, inviting ambience.

  • Enhanced Outdoor Experience
The outdoor seating area was upgraded with uniform, durable furniture in muted tones, establishing a cohesive visual language between interior and exterior spaces.

  • Brand Identity Reinforcement
We introduced a refreshed visual identity for Grove Café, featuring new signage with vibrant orange and green accents, reflective of freshness and vitality. The logo was prominently displayed on the façade, contributing to stronger brand recognition and an elevated perception of quality.

Outcome and Impact

Post-renovation, Grove Café has been completely transformed from a dated, deteriorating establishment into a vibrant, modern destination café. The project significantly elevated the brand’s market positioning, attracting a broader customer base and generating a substantial improvement in business performance. Significantly, the prohibition of smoking across the premises has further enhanced the dining environment, making it healthier and more family-friendly.

The Grove Café renovation exemplifies ENOCHDECO’s commitment to delivering not only aesthetic excellence but also strategic solutions that enhance operational efficiency, brand equity, and customer experience. We are proud to have contributed to redefining Grove Café as one of the brand’s flagship locations, demonstrating how thoughtful design can drive business success beyond mere appearances.
